Pratt Drawathon 2009
Last Friday was the annual Drawathon at Pratt. Hundreds of students and working artists gathered in Brooklyn for a marathon 12 hour (7pm-7am) figure drawing session. Artists in attendance included Michael Allen, who runs the risque performance/drawing session also dubbed draw-a-thon, and Richard Scarpa, who does classic and quite precise portraits.
I ended up leaving after the midnight pizza break, only to return, pencil in hand, around 2:30 for the rest of the night. I spent my time in the costume room, getting some practice in with the clothed figure. I run my own figure drawing group in our Williamsburg studio, so I see enough naked people.
The room I was in had no music, and a few chatty students. I was grateful for my apple sound-blocking headphones and Titanium Dreads.
